MILTON — On the opening day of spring sports season for Vermont high schools, Yellow Jacket Softball came away with a win.

Milton won 10-6 against Mount Mansfield Union on April 16. During the game, Milton also celebrated its three seniors, Samantha Borman, Emma Eaton and Mickey Simays.

"I hope we continue to have a winning season, and I hope to have fun," Eaton said.

Borman, Eaton, Laurie Olsaver, Emma Philbrook, Grace Williams and Abby Farrar all scored runs for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

Head Coach Steph Huxley said she was happy with how the game went, considering it had been two years since most girls had played ball.

"I'm definitely happy to be back," she said. "The girls worked really hard and deserve to be here."

Though the team wasn't able to complete last season due to the cancellation of spring sports, Borman said she still tried to keep up her skills.

"I did some throwing and batting on my own," she said.

Borman and Eaton are both looking forward to seeing their younger teammates grow into more seasoned athletes this season.

"We have almost a whole new team this year," Eaton said. "I'm excited to see new, young kids in the program."

Milton Softball will next play at 4:30 p.m. April 22 at home against Lamoille Union High School.
