MHS State Champion banners

State Championship banners hang in the Milton High School gymnasium. The Milton Athletic Department will create a banner this summer to recognize champions in Track and Field.

MILTON — Milton’s track and field champions will soon have their names enshrined in school history.

This summer, the Milton Athletic Department will create a banner recognizing Milton High School’s individual track and field state champions from 1979 to the present. The banner will hang alongside other athletic banners in the high school’s gymnasium.

To complete the project, the department needs to fill in some blanks and is seeking the community’s help in doing so, Athletic Director Marcel Choquette said.

While the department has the names of many male and female track and field champions from Milton, it is missing some others.

“There are almost no records from 1990 to 2000,” Choquette said.

Individual state champions are athletes with the best time or mark in Division 2 in the entire state of Vermont during a given year.

If you or someone you know was an individual state champion in track and field while at Milton, contact the athletic department at 802-893-5470 or at mchoquette@mymtsd-vt.org.

Choquette said some type of proof will need to be shown, like a photograph, newspaper clipping, or medal. The department hopes to finalize its list by June 1.

The athletic department recognizes and thanks the MHS Boosters for covering the cost of the banners.

“I think it is important to recognize everyone who has had great achievement in our athletic programs,” Choquette said. “We have been blessed with a rich, successful athletic history and want to acknowledge our Track and Field student athletes. These athletes have beaten the best, and as State Champions, they are the best. We are hopeful this recognition will help inspire and enhance the experience of our current student athletes.”

Below is the list of male and female individual state champions currently held by the Milton Athletic Department. Hover and scroll to view.

The list will be updated here as more information from the community is collected.
