Richard was born February 20, 1943 in Burlington, the son of the late Wayne H. and Catherine Coventry Tomlinson. He attended Burlington schools, graduating from Burlington High School in 1961. Following his graduation, Richard joined the Vermont Army National Guard serving his country for 30 years.
On September 5, 1964 he married Sandra Lattrell in South Burlington. His family lived in Richmond prior to their move to Milton. He was also employed by IBM for 30 years retiring in 1995. Richard was proud to have been a member of the Richmond Fire Department and later the Milton Fire Department. Until his health forced him to retire for the final time, Richard drove bus for Mountain Transit.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard loved camping, hunting and fishing. His love for the automobile was expressed by his affection for NASCAR, attending Thunder Road, enjoying Antique Car Shows and being a member of the VT Car Enthusiast Group.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandy of Milton and their children; Meredith Tomlinson and close family friend, Mary Ellen Fleiter of Colchester, Jennifer Tomlinson and fiancé, Chris LaBerge of Milton. His grandchildren; Cody, Dustin, Bailey, Shea and Juliana. His two brothers; James Tomlinson of Burlington and Raymond Tomlinson of Essex. His mother in law, Gladys Lattrell of Duxbury, sisters in law; Carol Wuyts and husband, Robert of Maryland and Susan Dove and husband, Greg of Texas. His brother in law, Theodore Lattrell and wife, Joanne of Duxbury, several nieces, nephews, cousins and all his special friends at Lakeview Campground in Eden, especially Larry, Debbie, Ron and Sally. Beside his parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, Richard Tomlinson Jr. on May 13, 1999 and his father in law, Theodore Lattrell Sr. in 1985.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 from 4-7 pm in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. A service will be held at 7 pm by Pastor Kim Ransom. Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 11 am in Maplewood Cemetery in Huntington.
