What's New at Milton Recreation - Winter

Winter has covered Milton with a crisp, white sheet of snow. Meanwhile, Milton Recreation is hard at work planning winter and spring programs. The Winter & Spring Program Guide will be released next week, and we are incredibly excited to share our upcoming programs and events with you.

For this Program Guide, we focused on offering a wide variety of safe programming to the Milton community. We have a generous mixture of free and paid programs, as well as in-person and virtual programs. We are offering many brand new classes, as well as some fan-favorites.

We can’t wait to share our programs, events and workshops with you, but until the guide is released, here is a sneak preview of January programs starting soon:

Beginner Harmonica is a super fun class for new harmonica players, taught by Ukulele master Clare Innes. In this class, you’ll learn how to play melodies, bend notes, achieve different tones and occasionally burst spontaneously into song. This program has two sessions: Thursdays, Jan. 7-21 from 10:30–11:30 a.m. or Saturdays, Jan. 9-23 from 6-7 p.m. The program fee is $30.

Jazz Funk Dance Class is sure to be the most exuberant dance class you’ll take. This program takes place at Footworks Studio of Dance and is open to grades 7-12. It meets at 6:15 p.m. every Wednesday from Jan. 13 to Feb. 17. This class is going to be a blast!

Learn to Dance and Adult Tap are two more programs in partnership with Footworks Studio of Dance. Learn to Dance is an introductory course for ages 7-11 and teaches the fundamentals of dance in all genres. Adult Tap is a fan favorite adult program made for beginners and advanced beginners of tap dance.

Both programs start Thursday, Jan. 14 and run until Feb. 18. Learn to Dance starts at 4:15 p.m. and Adult Tap starts at 6:30 p.m. Late registrations are allowed for both classes – reach out to Milton Recreation if you’d like to register and it’s past the deadline.

Zumba Gold – Traditional is an amazing way to get enjoyment and fun through exercise, with the added benefit of staying in the comfort of your home. This virtual class is designated for adults 55+ who are looking for a low intensity work out, but a high intensity of fun! Join Katherine Rowe every Monday from Jan. 25 to March 1, 9-9:45 a.m. (P.S. look out for our Zumba Gold – Chair class that starts in March!)

A particularly new and exciting class starting this January is Intro to Kettlebells. This class will be held every Tuesday at the Milton Grange, starting Jan. 26. It’s open to teens and adults, ages 14 and up. Kettlebells are a fun and safe way to build stamina, improve balance, increase joint mobility, and build explosive power. Intro to Kettlebells is open to all fitness levels, and it’s a particularly great program for young athletes.

Milton Recreation diligently designed our safety measures to make sure that all in-person programs are pandemic-safe for registrants. In-person programs, workshops and events will require masks, temperature checks, hand sanitizing and proper social distancing in accordance with State of Vermont guidelines. All equipment and program supplies will be disinfected before and after every class, and no equipment will be shared.

We hope to see you all at some of our January programs, and keep an eye out for the Winter & Spring Program Guide coming soon!
