What's New at Milton Recreation - Winter

Milton Recreation is excited to announce a new special event: The Great Milton Bake Off!

Have you ever loudly proclaimed yourself as the best amateur baker in Milton? Do you find yourself binge-watching baking shows on a Friday night? If you answered yes, then this event is for you!

Open to amateur bakers of all ages, this event is modeled after the hit British competition show, The Great British Bake Off (retitled as The Great British Baking Show in the United States).

The Great Milton Bake Off starts Feb. 1 and ends April 30, with two challenges each month: a Signature challenge and a Showstopper challenge.

The Signature challenges are made to show off contestants’ personality through their favorite tried-and-tested recipes. The Showstopper challenges are made to wow the judges with skillful appearances and outstanding flavors.

Each month will have a different baking theme. February’s theme is Desserts, March’s theme is Breads and April’s theme is Cakes. The specific details of each challenge will be released at the beginning of each month.

The judges will announce a monthly Star Baker at the end of each month’s round, as well the elimination. The competition is limited to 12 bakers and four will be eliminated at the end of each round. On April 30, the winner will be announced and crowned Milton’s Star Baker!

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the judges will not be able to taste the confections. Instead, contestants will submit videos, photos and an informational sheet each month. Submissions will be judged on appearance, accuracy, complexity of flavors and creativity of ingredients.

For those who aren’t particularly skilled in the kitchen, you can still participate by following along on the Milton Recreation website and on social media. Leave encouraging feedback and show support for your favorites.

To enter the competition, visit us at miltonvt.gov/recregister. We can’t wait to see everyone’s creations, and bring some heart-warming, family-friendly fun to our cold winter.

Get ready, set, BAKE!
