The Vermont State Police (VSP) has reported that it located and cited the sixth operator of a multi-vehicle crash which occurred days before in Charlotte.
The incident took place just before 6:37 a.m. Feb. 17 on US Route 7 when a vehicle lost control, crashed into another vehicle, and rolled over near the town line of Ferrisburgh. A series of other collisions ensued involving a total of six vehicles, one of which -- a black Volkswagen with damage to the front-left -- fled the scene.
The area of Route 7 was closed for approximately two hours. VSP said icy road conditions appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The public was encouraged to contact state police with any information regarding the incident or the black Volkswagen.
VSP then reported that Silas Carpenter, 24, of Milton, was located and identified as being the operator of the vehicle that had fled the scene. Carpenter was cited to appear in court to answer to the charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and he was also issued a ticket for driving with a suspended license.
Authorities say Carpenter and his vehicle do not appear to be at fault for the crash.
