The Vermont Hand Crafters are proud to recognize Milton’s Tessie Follensbee, one of a selection of young artists who will exhibit with the group next month.
Tessie, 12, was accepted by the Vermont Hand Crafters’ jury committee last month as part of its Young Artist Project, which seeks to “nurture artistic skills, encourage self-expression and build confidence” among Vermont artists age 12-18, a press release said.
Tessie, a Milton Middle School student started painting when she was 5 years old. Her first paintings were done with oil paints, but her preference now is acrylic paints.
She paints mostly on canvas and the occasional wooden bowl turned by her grandfather on his lathe. This past summer, Tessie helped her art teacher design and paint a mural for her school.
Tessie experiments with new techniques and materials including pour paints, bubble wrap, sponges, puff paints and three-dimensional flowers to get different effects. She enjoys drawing animals and people.
Tessie takes classes to develop her skills and learn new techniques.
Tessie will exhibit at Vermont Hand Crafters Craft Vermont annual show on November 16-18 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Burlington.
