SOUTH BURLINGTON — A 20-year-old Milton man is the suspect in a case relating to a stolen truck. 

Just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, South Burlington Police received a report of a stolen truck in the area of 1025 Shelburne Road. The owner of the truck called 911 to report the theft. He also reported his wife was still in the truck while it was being stolen and driven away.

A short time later, the wife was let out of the truck unharmed at an area business and sought assistance from people in the immediate area. The truck had been last seen driving south on Shelburne Road.

Responding officers eventually located the stolen truck traveling northbound on Shelburne Road by Allen Road. A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and the suspect was arrested without incident.

The suspect was identified as Mbyayenge Mafuta, age 20, from Milton.

Mafuta is being charged with the following crimes; Aggravated Operation without Owners Consent, Grand Larceny, Petit Larceny, Interference with Emergency Services, Larceny from a Person and Unlawful Restraint.

Mafuta was lodged at Northwest Corrections with a bail of $2,500.00. Mafuta is due in court on June 1.
