Madison Chalmers carried the Yellowjackets into the lead with a big second quarter and Milton stayed in front the rest of the way last Saturday for a 44-31 Lake Division girls basketball victory.
Missisquoi, looking for a third win this winter after going 0-20 a year ago, came out of the first quarter trailing Milton by just a point at 8-7, helped by the first of Catherine Paradis’ two 3-pointers in the game.
But helped by Chalmers’ three field goals in the second frame, after she had a pair of scores in the first, Milton pulled away while holding the Thunder birds to just four points on a field goal each from Serena Power and Mayce LeGrand.
With the lead up to double digits at halftime, Milton outscored MVU by one in the third and two in the fourth to stay in front.
Isabel Paquette led MVU offensively with eight points, all in the second half and including a 6-for-6 effort at the foul line. Power and Paradis finished with six each, Kailie Manchester picked up four, LeGrand scored two, and Emily Bourdeau netted three in the fourth.
Cassidy Button again led Milton’s scoring, racking up 20 points and scoring at least once in each period. Chalmers scored nine, all in the first half, while Madison North scored six, Megan Reilly five with a 3-pointer, and Kate Rowley four on a pair of third-quarter baskets.
