This has been a very difficult time for the town of Georgia as we said final goodbyes to our deceased volunteer firefighter Steve Lapierre and continue to comfort his family.

I wanted you to know I have heard from many of the volunteer firemen here how much they depend upon the Milton department. This comes up in discussions of the Georgia department’s attempts to save Stevie while the fire was going on. They all say it was Milton’s quick response and professional ability to take over for our guys that made it possible for the Georgia department to concentrate on their fellow firefighter.

Please convey my sincere thanks to your department. They are a shining example of how people in small towns can work together for the good of all. This is truly the Vermont way.

I am deeply grateful to each of them and to you for helping our firefighters in this time. Thank you.
