We are writing in regard to the article “Kids wait longer for help” [Sept. 27] about services in the Milton schools.
We appreciate the article highlighting the importance of the student assistance counselor’s role in our school and the large gap it left in services at the elementary school. We would like to clarify the information in Dr. Barone’s quote regarding elementary school counselors sitting in on private therapy sessions. It is not a practice that has ever occurred in the elementary school. Any time we meet or do a group with the therapists, releases are signed, and parent permissions are obtained.
We feel it is important that our role as school counselors is not misinterpreted by the Milton community or by our colleagues at Milton Elementary School.
