SOUTH BURLINGTON — Hunter Mason’s goal put Missisquoi in front early, but Milton charged back behind Nick Desouza’s natural hat trick for a 5-1 victory over the visiting Thunderbirds on Saturday night at Cairns Arena.

Steven King set Mason up for the opening tally just 2:23 in, and MVU (5-8-1) maintained the 1-0 lead into the second period before Patrick Shannon’s unassisted goal tied it at 2:43 of the second.

Then Desouza took over, with some help from Shannon.

The sophomore netted the go-ahead goal at 7:32 and scored again just over two minutes later, both off assists from Shannon. Dsouza scored his third in a row 2:55 into the third, from Cam Goodrich, and Colton Lambert finished the scoring at 11:04, from Brennan Cross.

P.J. Bouchard stopped 11 shots and Logan LaBelle made one save in the third period for Missisquoi. Jackson Ehler made 16 saves for the Yellowjackets (8-5-1).

On Friday night, Milton battled back from a two-goal deficit with scores from Goodrich and Shannon, but visiting Harwood pulled out a 3-2 makeup-game victory when Erik Ziedens scored seconds into a power play, with just 43 seconds remaining in the game.

Harwood (9-5-1) scored a pair in 42 seconds midway through the first period to go up 2-0, the first coming on a power play. Goodrich cut the deficit to one at 6:50 of the middle frame, assisted by Shannon, who tied it 2:59 later unassisted.

Chris Lefebvre made eight saves in goal for Milton while Harwood’s Sean Russell made 13 saves for the Highlanders.
