Dylan Hemsted added to his trophy case with an outstanding performance on Saturday at the Bob Benoure Invitational, hosted by Colchester High School.

Joining Hemsted was Milton  High School teammate Ian Kandzior, who competed in the 170 lb. division. Kandzior went two-for-two on the day, making it to the consolation semifinals before a tough loss ended his day.

Hemsted’s performance was highlighted by his 100th career win. A hard-fought championship semifinals match saw Hemsted down 4-2 late in the second period. A quick reversal and a dramatic pin made for a most memorable 100th win. Hemsted reached the milestone despite having missed all of his freshman season because of a broken leg.

His finals match was equally exciting and hard-fought, but his opponent from Saranac Lake,  N.Y., was just too powerful a wrestler. Hemsted’s efforts earned him second place this day. He was also award the Quickest Pin trophy for pinning his first-round opponent in just nine seconds.

The Milton wrestlers will compete this weekend at the Jason Lowell Memorial tournament, hosted by Mt. Mansfield High School.
