Area fire crews responded to a structure fire in Georgia last week that caused susbtantial damage to the home.
Georgia, Milton and St. Albans fire departments arrived at 99 Rounds Rd. in Georgia just before 4 p.m. May 3 to find flames coming out of the house’s roof.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the rear apartment of the duplex, but a Vermont State Police press release said the front apartment also sustained fire, smoke and water damage.
Georgia Fire Chief Keith Baker requested fire investigators from the Vt. Department of Public Safety Fire Investigation Unit to respond to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. They determined the fire started in the living room of the duplex’s rear apartment but could not say the exact cause due to “the severe devastation and consumption” from the blaze, a news release said.
Tenant Katherine Chagnon discovered the fire when she returned home from work and immediately called 911, police said. Both families residing in the duplex were displaced by the fire and assisted by the Red Cross. There were no reported injuries.
Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to contact VSP Detective Sgt. Matthew Hill at 524-5993.
