Ayer, Mass. / Milton – Elaine Rose Scott, 67, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass., with her husband by her side.

Elaine was born on April 16, 1945 in Montréal, Province of Québec, Canada, the daughter of Ernest and Winifred (Cooke) Sherratt.

Elaine grew up in Rosemount, a community in Montréal. The family moved to Pointe Claire and spent the summers at a cabin in the hills around Rivington, P.Q., that Ernie built for the family. It has always been known as “The Shack”!

Elaine enjoyed traveling; as a young woman she spent 10 weeks exploring Europe and staying at youth hostels.

In August of 1968,  while on vacation in Bermuda, she met her future husband.

On Sept. 27, 1969, she married Walter D. Scott. Jr., from Washington, Penn. at the Church of the Resurrection in Pointe Claire, P.Q., Canada.

Elaine became a naturalized U.S. citizen on Oct. 26, 1981 in Burlington.

Elaine and Don supported their daughter, Jennifer, throughout her years in the Milton school system.
They enjoyed sailing “Welcome Change” on Lake Champlain.

Elaine was executive assistant to Keith Ober, superintendent of the Milton Town School District for six years.

She also worked for the Digital Federal Credit Union for 11 years, retiring on Dec. 23, 2009 as a marketing administrator.

In addition to her husband, Don, Elaine is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Scott) Eames, and her husband, Stan, of Windham, Maine and Ft. Myers, Fla.; and by her brother, Brian Roy Sherratt, and his wife, Lorri, of Prescott, Ontario.

Don and Jennifer want to recognize and thank the support of family and friends during the past nine months.

To the doctors, nurses and staff at both MGH and Emerson Hospital, especially the Naka Infusion Center, words cannot express the gratitude that Elaine’s family has for the kind, compassionate and professional care provided Elaine, while she was with them.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 8, 2012 at the Milton Village Cemetery. A reception will follow at the United Church of Milton at 51 Main St.
