Obituary Policy

The Milton Independent prints obituaries, committal notices and in memoriam for Milton and Georgia residents, current and former, or those with connections to our two communities.

Rates: The Independent charges for obituaries using the following scale:

  • First 600 words and photo: FREE
  • Thereafter: $0.25 per word and $5 per extra photo

Committal notices and in memoriam with accompanying photos are free of charge, using the editor’s discretion that the submission is an appropriate length.

Deadlines: Please email all notices to news@miltonindependent.com by Mondays at noon. We cannot guarantee placement of any obituary submitted on a Tuesday. Please include the funeral home's contact person for verification.

Billing: Milton Independent staff will handle obituary placement in the paper, but billing will originate from the St. Albans Messenger, 281 North Main St., St. Albans, VT 05478. Contact Gail Wells with any billing questions at gail@samessenger.com or 524-9771 ext. 117.
