Relay sweep helps earn Slater track title FAIR HAVEN — Milton swept the three relay events and got individual wins from Brandon Racine, Andrew McQuinn and Carson Bianchi to win the boys championship in last Saturday’s Slater Invitational track and field meet at Fair Haven Union High School. Racine won the javelin with a throw of 134 feet, 10 inches, beating out Chelsea’s Tristan Larocque (133-7) and McQuinn (132-6). Racine also earned second in the pole vault. The Yellowjackets held St. Johnsbury to just one second-half goal, turning a tight game at halftime into a 13-5 Division II boys lacrosse win victory last Saturday. With Milton up 6-4, Ethan Howell scored unassisted and then set up John LaRose for another score and an 8-4 edge going into the final period. Colby Bergeron and Devon Jackson each scored a pair of fourth-quarter goals, with Howell also netting the last of his four scores. SWANTON — Emily Bourdeau followed a three-run homer in the second inning with a grand slam in the third, leading another big offensive day for Missisquoi as the Thunderbirds overpowered visiting Milton last Tuesday, 17-2 in five innings. Yellowjacket victory opens baseball season

The Yellowjackets scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, then pulled out a season-opening 10-9 victory over visiting Lyndon Institute last Saturday when Jake Laware’s walkoff single scored Ryan Austin. The Vikings built a 7-4 lead after three innings helped by two home runs and were three outs from a win with a 9-4 advantage midway through the seventh. PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Milton High School junior Nick Johnson won five straight matches by pin, earning the 220-pound title at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships in Providence, R.I. last Friday and Saturday. Johnson finished second a week earlier in the Vermont state championships at Vergennes Union High School but took down state champions from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts to take the New England title.
