Letter: Red Ribbon Week ends successfully

The Milton Community Youth Coalition and Our Voices Xposed (OVX) student group would like to thank the community members for again participating in Red Ribbon Week (October 24 – October 31). For this week, red ribbons will be displayed in businesses and around town, drawing awareness to our community’s efforts in preventing substance abuse. It is particularly important to the students because they want to raise awareness on these pressing issues. Activities will take part throughout the school district and around town including giveaways, drug-free pledge signings, and ribbons in local businesses. Thank you for again making Red Ribbon...

Letter: The food shelf thanks you

I would just like to thank everyone in the Milton community who has been supporting the food shelf at the Milton Family Community Center.  Every month more than 200 hundred families access our food shelf.  This means that it is very challenging to keep our shelves stocked with non-perishable food and essential items for families in need.  We couldn’t do it without the support of all the individuals, organizations and businesses who have been donating food and money for our food shelf throughout the year. Nor could we do it without the support of our community volunteers who help...

Letter: Thank you for coming out to help us celebrate our 75 Year Anniversary!

On behalf of the officers and members of the Milton Fire Department, I would like to thank all those that came out and celebrated the Fire Department’s open house Saturday, Oct. 13.  We had wonderful weather and a fantastic turnout from the public with more than 350 in attendance. Highlights included fire, rescue, police and public works exhibits; tower rides were a great success as well as the State of Vermont’s Fire Prevention and Hot Box Trailers.  These trailers allowed our firefighters to conduct live fire demonstrations and provide other in-home fire prevention safety tips. We would also like...

Holly Bessette responds

Clearly I struck a few nerves with my letter. First: I never said Milton’s police force didn’t do their jobs. I said there is too much police force, many in high positions. Nevertheless, to sell our residents on a K9 unit because our police officer stated that we are a “high crime,” “high traffic” town bothered me. The only place in Vermont I feel that way about is Rutland. We are in a safe town because we choose to live in a town, not a city. Greg, are you telling me our police officers aren’t fully trained? That they...

Letter: Vote Carolyn Branagan

Who is the most sensible, honest, hard working and earnest representative in Montpelier?  That’s easy; it’s our very own Carolyn Branagan representing Georgia in our state legislature. I have never known a harder working and more committed person as Carolyn. Not only is she on task 100 percent of the time, she also really cares about her constituents. Carolyn takes on the tough jobs in Montpelier. How do we pay for our financial obligations? How can we continue to fund our schools? How do we help Vermont farms stay viable? These are not new issues nor are they easily...
