The bats finally got going for the Essex Hornets in their sixth game of the season, as they hung 13 runs and 17 hits on the Milton Yellowjackets in Milton last Thursday night. Josh Baez homered in the second inning for Essex, keying a 10-0 start that would lead to a 13-1 Hornet victory. Two bad innings doomed the Milton Yellowjackets on Tuesday night, as they allowed a six-run fourth and a nine-run seventh to visiting Mt. Mansfield and fell to 0-3 on the season with a 15-8 loss. For the third straight year, the Milton Yellowjackets found themselves on the wrong end of Northfield in the Lake Division playoffs. The fifth-seeded Marauders jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead Wednesday night en route to a 3-1 quarterfinal victory, snapping the fourth-seeded Yellowjackets’ seven-game winning streak and ending their season in the process. The Thunderbirds of MVU snapped a three-game losing streak in decisive fashion Friday night, taking down an overmatched Yellowjacket team 77-49 in Milton.
