Yellowjackets boys’ basketball advances to semifinals

By ANTHONY LABOR JR. Messenger Sports MILTON – Friday’s Division II quarterfinal between the No. 3 Milton and No. 6 Mt. St. Joseph boys basketball teams looked like it was going to be a competitive game through the first 10 minutes. After trailing by eight, the Green Wave battled back to make it a one-point game with five minutes left in the second quarter. But the Yellowjackets took over from there, going on a 19-5 run and never looking back on the way to an 82-62 win to book their ticket to Barre Auditorium for the first time since...

Milton cruises past MVU

Jennings scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Yellowjackets to a 65-35 victory. “As soon as we started to close out on shooters and play good defense early, we started to get a good transition game going, so that kind of sparked us to start pulling away,” said Milton coach Chris Brown. “We were moving the ball well and didn’t have a letup in the second half, which was nice to see. “Jennings is kind of the separation between us and a lot of the other teams we have played so far. Milton lax off to strong start

MILTON — Playing its first two games of the lacrosse season on consecutive days, Milton is off to a solid start. Ground balls, passing, catching; everything was sloppy being out on the field finally....

HIGHGATE – The first time Milton and Missisquoi met in boys hockey this season, they battled to a scoreless tie. Last Saturday was a much different story for one of the teams. Milton erupted for five first-period goals, including three goals during a 5-minute power play on its way to a 7-0 win over the Thunderbirds at Highgate Arena. It was another big shutout win for the Yellowjackets after coming away with a 5-0 victory over St. Johnsbury in their last game. “I think unselfishness was the difference between the outcome today and the outcome the first time we...

Milton earns second straight title

SOUTH BURLINGTON — Looking to set the tone early on in the Division II championship game last Saturday, Milton sophomore Tatum Shappy fired a shot on net less than five minutes into the game from 25 yards out. The rocket bounced off the Montpelier goalie’s hands and in to give the top-seeded Yellowjackets an early 1-0 lead, and that was all the Yellowjackets needed for the girls soccer program’s 14th state championship and second in a row. Milton’s defense and goalkeeper Madison North stepped up in a big way on the artificial turf field at South Burlington High School...
