ENOSBURG FALLS – Andre “Andy” Leo Joseph Bessette Jr., 51, died peacefully on Jan. 27, 2016 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Andy was born April 17, 1964 in Burlington, the son of Andre Sr. and Theresa (Whitehouse) Bessette. He worked for the Offset House in Essex Junction for many years. Andy loved his golden retrievers Max and Kelo and watching UFC, playing cribbage, fishing and enjoying the outdoors on his 4-wheeler. Police: Georgia woman embezzled more than $80K

South Burlington Police cited a Georgia woman on Wednesday for embezzling more than $80,000 from her employer, a press release said. Cindy L. Heath, 55, the arcade manager of Pizza Putt in South Burlington, reportedly stole cash directly from a machine that sells preloaded cards used for arcade games. The embezzlement occurred over a year and a half, police said. MHS wows State of the Union judges

Milton High School students dominated U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ sixth annual State of the Union essay contest, filling two of the top three spots. MHS senior Meredith Holbrook impressed the panel of five Vermont teachers who served as volunteer judges, taking first place in the contest. Competition was steep this year: 799 students from 39 high schools around the state submitted essays compared to last year’s 454 entries, Sanders’ office said.
