Sunrise opening for new grocery store

Dawn Bordeau and Scott Jones of Milton were already in line for 3.5 hours when the doors to Milton’s new Hannaford grocery store opened last Saturday morning. The duo arrived at 3:20 a.m. to stand in line. “We were awake,” Bordeau said at 5:45 a.m. “We thought it would be something fun to do other than watching the news.” More than 500 people had joined the couple by 8 a.m., an hour after the store at 259 Route 7 South opened in the new Milton Square Plaza, developed by real estate magnate Ernie Pomerleau. The 47,000-square-foot market added half...

Yellowjackets make chances count

It’s not very often that a team wins a field hockey game and doesn’t have any penalty corners. One of those “not very often” games took place at Missisquoi Valley last Friday afternoon as the visiting Milton Yellowjackets defeated the Thunderbirds, 2-0. Most of the game was played between the 25s, with the defenses tightening up as the play got closer to goal. MVU goalie Veronica Cook-Vilbrin and Milton goalie Meredith Holbrook each made three saves during the contest. The Yellowjackets had two chances to score the whole game and cashed in on both of them. Three of Milton’s...
