Milton second in state lacrosse tourney

The Milton fifth- and sixth-grade lacrosse team had a great season this year, finishing with a No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the U13B playoffs. In the quarterfinal game, held at Bombardier Park, Milton beat So. Burlington 11-5, thus securing a spot in the final weekend. On Saturday, June 15, Milton played Williston in the semifinal game at the Allen Brook School in Williston. Milton jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a goal by Jackson Ehler, assisted by Owen Perry. Giard helps Ice Storm win opener, 22-14

The Vermont Ice Storm defeated the Vermont Ravens 22-14 to win the first annual Sap Bucket Bowl game. Running back Jason Young swept around left end from 14 yards out with 42 second left in the game to provide the winning score for the semipro Ice Storm team. Quarterback Travis Giard, a 2013 graduate of Milton High School, ran in the two-point conversion to finish the game’s scoring. Duane C. Wood

Milton – Duane C. Wood, 84, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Duane Carroll Wood, son of Arthur E. Wood and Iva L. ( Russ ) Wood, was born May 4, 1929 in Royalton. He was always busy with projects around his home and helping his neighbors. Duane married Mildred A. Leonard A. Metivier

Milton – Leonard Alfred Metivier, 87, passed away at his home Saturday, June 22, 2013, following a long illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1925 in St. Albans, the son of the late Alfred and Rose Leonard Metivier. Leonard served his country in WWII and the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion and served with the Milton Fire Department.  He belonged to St. Ann’s Parish in Milton and retired from G.S. Blodgett Company in 1988. Several weeks ago it came to my attention that Evan “Mac” McEwan was really retiring this time. I felt that after serving generations in this town for almost 40 years, this retirement was newsworthy. I called the editor of the Milton Independent to report this piece of news. Imagine my disappointment that after two months, there was no article.
